Sweet orange (Citrus Sinensis)
The orange tree is one of the most cultivated trees in the world, and it was imported to Italy from China in the times of the Roman Empire. This tree has a seasonal trend, so when temperatures drop the fruit changes in colour and comes to maturity.
USES AND FUN FACTS
The Sweet Orange fruit is round-shaped and has a yellowish-orange pulp. It is largely used in cooking, both because of its juice, which is rich in vitamins, and because of its peel, which is used to flavour salads and sauces. The Sweet Orange is suitable for pot growing.
This tree has a higher resistance to cold weather than lemon trees, and it can bear temperatures up to -7 °C when occasional; however, even if low temperatures won’t not damage the tree, they can damage its fruits if they are not mature, thus making them rot.
