PICUAL – OIL VARIETY
Picual is a cultivar native to Spain.
It is commonly cultivated for oil production: from Picual we get around 25% of olive-oil world production.
High oil yield –around 20-27%. Oil derived from this variety is rich in polyphenols, and olives are usually picked after they are fully ripe, in order to maximise oil content, yet loosing quality and taste. Less than a quarter of the annual harvest is sold as extra-virgin oil.
