CULTIVAR:

Native to the Florentine area, Pendolino is a cultivar spread all along the peninsula.

Quite vigorous plant with abundant flowering and excellent fruit set and olive production. It usually has a spreading and quite dense foliage. Fruit-bearing trees are rather long and have a typical pendulous habit, feature that gives the plant its name and makes it a good ornamental plant. It is often cultivated and used as a pollinator, and it became popular for this reason as well. Good pollinators are Morchiaio, Frantoio, Maurino, Moraiolo, Leccino and Rosciola. It is sensitive to sooty mould. Inflorescences are long and have abundant, medium-sized flowers. Abortion of the ovary rate is 15% maximum.

Productivity is quite high and constant. Drupes have a simultaneous veraison and, in intermediate periods, they are not very resistant to detachment.
It is usually early and a quite high yields (19-22%). Oil is delicate and perfumed, with almond, bitter and spicy hints.
